How to create the ultimate “man cave”
Let’s face it, for many, garden sheds are an area left untouched during the winter months. This is because they are mostly regarded as a space to store your garden tools! But for those who want to push the boat out and use their shed as a source of entertainment all year round, we think we have just the answer…
You’ve probably heard of a “man cave” before. It’s a designated area for those that want to kick back and relax surrounded by home comforts – usually sports and pints! More and more people are now realising that a perfect man cave can be achieved from their back garden; and here at Solid Sheds, we’re on hand to give you some easy tips on how you can make your man cave the envy of your friends.
Revamp or from scratch?
Designing and installing your own man cave is not going to be an easy job if you want it to mirror your dream idea. So, before you go about designing your interior, you will first want to perform a thorough check of your existing structure to see if it can do the job required. Of course, a revamp will be cheaper than buying a new wood shed. But if it is on its last legs already it might be best to look for a new one.
Make sure you measure up your existing structure and compare it to the space you’d like for your man cave. This all depends on what you want in your interior, but if you long for a pool table, mini bar, TV and seating area amongst other aspects, you might need to upsize!
In many cases, it will make sense to purchase a brand new shed that looks cleaner and is larger than your existing model to mark the opening of your new garden structure.
Deciding on your interior
Once you have a well-insulated wooden shed in your garden, it’s now time for the fun bit! Art on the walls? Games console at the ready? A screen as large as the back wall itself? An empty shed truly is a blank canvas and can be designed in whatever way suits you. Many people have opted for a theme for their man cave. Whether this is a nod to their favourite film or TV show, or perhaps by kitting it out with memorabilia from their favourite football team.
The interior of your man cave can start simple with all of your “essentials” such as a TV, games console, fridge and alcoholic beverages, whilst building up over time. The key here is to think personally about your interior design, as, after all, your man cave will be sat in the garden of your home!
Wi-Fi connection is a must!
We will only discuss this one briefly, as we have a dedicated blog post all about how to extend your WiFi range to your shed. But if you are wanting your shed to be an area that you want to spend a lot of time in, you aren’t going to want to use up all your mobile data, right? A WiFi connection is also crucial in case you want to watch anything other than Freeview TV in your man cave. Without this feature, almost all live sports are off limits!
