Description

Looking for a log storage solution to keep your firewood dry? If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, woodstove, or any type of wood burner to keep you warm throughout winter, it’s likely that you’ll also need a safe place to securely store your logs.

Whether you split your own logs or buy them in bulk, you’ll need to stack recently-cut logs somewhere to let them dry out. You won’t want large quantities of logs making a mess inside your house, but leaving them in the garden means they’ll be exposed to rain.

Wet logs probably won’t burn at all, and even damp logs won’t burn very well. So, what can you do to ensure your logs are fully functional and your fires burn efficiently? The answer is to invest in a purpose-built log store from Solid Sheds.

Why choose a log store from Solid Sheds?

Our log storage shed is the perfect solution for anyone in need of an accessible structure, making it easy to collect logs whenever you need them. Practical, durable, and aesthetically appealing, our sturdy log stores are made with only the best long-lasting, pressure-treated redwood.

With a raised floor, pent roof, and slatted sides, your logs are guaranteed to receive the air circulation they need to dry out properly without over-exposure to rain or groundwater. Our wooden log stores are ideal for the efficient outdoor organisation of your log pile.

We always aim to cater to the needs of every customer at Solid Sheds, so we offer this high-quality garden log store in a variety of sizes. No matter how many logs you need to store, we’re sure that one of our size selections will be suitable. If you have a smaller garden and use minimal logs, the 5 x 2 x 5 ft model might be the best fit, while the 6 x 4 x 5 ft model would be better if you require a much larger wood store shed.

It’s important to consider the location of your log store carefully before you set it up, or have our expert team construct it for you. Of course, you want it to be as close to the house as possible, but you also need to think about things like the direction of the sun and wind.

Firstly, the garden log store needs to sit in a stable position on a flat and firm section of ground. If the surface is uneven, you may need to use spacers or shims to get the log shed level without sinking. Secondly, the open side should be facing towards the sun and away from rain.

It’s fine if the exposed ends of the logs do get rained on, as they’ll still dry out faster due to the flow of air through the front and sides. However, to make sure that the air can circulate around the logs properly, avoid locating the wooden log store directly against other structures.

Leave a foot or two of space between walls or fences and the back of the log store to let air pass through. Avoid low-lying areas, dark corners, or spots underneath overhanging trees and plants – run-off water and no wind or sun is the last thing your logs need.

You might be wondering why our garden log store has an open front and gaps between the slatted sides, when it’s supposed to shelter logs from the elements. The fact of the matter is that even kiln-dried logs still need adequate ventilation while in storage.

If you store your logs in a regular shed with closed doors, or cover them with a tarpaulin, you’ll be sealing them in and creating a kind of greenhouse. The resulting humidity can lead to mould, rot, and colonies of insects making your log pile their new home.

As long as you face the open side of the log store away from hard-driving rain, any surface wetness on the exposed ends of the logs will quickly evaporate with wind and sunlight. The raised floor keeps the logs away from the cold damp ground, while the uncovered sides let air in to dry out the logs.
